My Review:

TRIGGER WARNING: MOVING ON AFTER DEATH, A PERSONAL QUEST FOR CLOSURE AFTER LOSING FAMILY MEMBERS, AND SOME MENTION OF DRUGS TAKEN BY PEOPLE

How far can love take someone? The Winter Song is about John Perera’s journey through the Spiti Valley in the Indian Himalayas. His mission? to honour his wife who died of cancer and find the killers of his young son.

Years ago, his wife wished at a temple in the same area to find a good husband.

The Winter Song has a mysterious title and that’s why I requested it. The synopsis sounded powerful and the story really is amazing.

As person with a Geography degree, I have always been fascinated by different cultures, countries and landscapes. I remember how taken one of my university lecturers was with the part of the Himalayas she visited.

The mountain range is challenging and majestic from the TV documentaries and movies I have seen but The Winter Song makes the landscape all-immersive.

I was swept along on the voyage through a harsh climate and feel this is such a humbling novel about what we are prepared to do for those we love.

The Winter Song is about life, and how love knows no boundaries even when the love of your life is no longer alive. Fatherhood and religion are themes, as are the tourists in the area.

It is very timely with what the world is going through and is raw, tender and has an undercurrent of risk and danger because of the hostile environment.

Thanks to Saurav Dutt and Rachel’s Random Resources for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

5 stars.
