Starring opposite her best friend in hit reality TV show Daughter of Famous Mothers, Julie Duncan was riding high, clouded with adoring fans and cozily married to an ambitious plastic surgeon. One day, everything changed. Betrayed by not only her husband, but someone she completely trusted, Julie disappeared from that life and left it all behind.

Four years later, Julie’s life is far from brag-able. Living with her sister and scraping by doing D-list gigs, Julie is given an opportunity to fix her pathetic life. The only catch? Spending a week on camera with the people who destroyed her life.
So what’s a girl to do when her back is against the wall?
✓ Create a new, improved version of herself—a version that has moved on and let go the trials of the past.
✓ Invent a hopping new social life and a hot Olympian boyfriend.
✓ Beg forgiveness from her former best friend.

Simple enough until her fake new boyfriend suddenly shows up, her former best friend gives the cold shoulder, her ex-husband is as shady as ever, and butterflies she thought had died long ago begin to flutter alive.

Will Julie be able to keep up her ruse? Or will the cameras catch something she won’t ever be able to escape?

My Review
What would you do if one day you had everything and then you lost it all the next? That’s exactly the situation Julie Duncan, star of a reality TV show called of Famous Mothers, finds herself in.
She has it all. Then, things change drastically for her as she has no choice but to move in with her sister and take any job just to survive.
Four years later, Julie’s luck changes again as she sees a possible opportunity to make things better for herself.
Sound too good to be true? Julie will have to face people she once trusted if she wants any real chance of getting her life back on track.
Reuniting Reality is a quick, light read. I think this will resonate with. anyone who has had to fight for their dreams.
Reuniting Reality was the first book I had read by Nikki LeClair, and her writing style is laid-back with a good pace that led me into the story straight away. I identified with Julie’s struggle to make something of herself, and thought all the characters were well fleshed-out.

Nikki LeClair writes in such a way that the realities of each of the characters in the book were clearly portrayed and I found myself rooting for Julie as I know what it is to fight for what, and who you really want in life.
Despite the undercurrent of struggles and lost dreams and loyalties, the book is written in a way that there’s humour, too. As it’s written from Julie’s point of view and in first person, we jump right into her “world” and this makes the writing powerful.
Thank you to Nikki LeClair and Karan & Co Author Solutions for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
I’m looking forward to reading more by Nikki LeClair and was pleased to also take part in the blog tour for this title. The cover image and font are very original and the book’s catchy title was what got my attention as well.Where to Find Nikki:

1) Where did the idea for the plot come from?

The idea for Reuniting Reality came as I was watching an episode of the Housewives of New Jersey (the only reality television show I watch).

I had started a manuscript involving the character of Julie being a producer and just shifted the story-line a bit.

2) Who is your favourite character? Why?

It’s a tie between Declan, Brooke and Finn. When I started writing the manuscript I thought Julie would be my favorite but as it went on,

Declan, Brooke and Finn captured my heart with the things they said or did. Sometime’s writer’s can’t control their characters!

3) Who is your least favourite character? Why?

Julie’s ex husband, Adam. It was, for a brief time Diana, the woman who wrecked Julie’s marriage. But as I wrote on, I realized I wanted Adam to be the bad guy because he was clearly a victim of his own self sabotage. Which is very relate-able to people.

 4) Which is your favourite scene in the book? Why?

I think my favorite scene would have to be the last dinner scene in the village where it looks like Julie has been betrayed in every single sense again.

5) What do you most like to do when you are not writing?

Lately, it really has been reading. I’m making time for it again. Not just chick-lit’s but all kinds of books.

6) What’s the story behind why and how you became an author?

My brother always wrote when he was younger so maybe I was a bit influenced by him. I would write fan fictions of my favorite television shows or really campy novels involving my friends. Recently I found out my father use to write when he was a teen, science-fiction books, so I’d like to think its in my DNA.

7) What is your favourite movie? Why?

Gone with the wind. I think I watch it at least twice a year. One of my favorite love stories, my favorite kind of heroine and my absolute favorite ending of all time.

“Julie? Julie, darling!”

I look away from Declan to see a man crossing the back of the lobby, towards me. He’s in a white suit and black turtleneck. His dirty blond curly hair is brushed back with product, he’s clean shaven and his smile is board, charismatic, so familiar for some reason. He’s definitely at least 6-2, with a thin but built frame I can see through his tight suit. He extends his long arms out, holds his bright smile. “Julie! There you are!”

Who in the hell is this? And why does he seem so familiar—

Oh. No.

No…

I feel my body cool and I shudder. My legs are suddenly jello, and my heart begins to slam anxiously inside my rib cage.

This isn’t happening…

He gets to me and grabs my shoulders, pulling me into a tight squeeze. I’m engulfed in the strong grip of his strong cologne. My face is buried into his chest and before I can push him away, he lets go of me but keeps his hands firmly on my shoulders. “I missed you so much, darling.”

“Uh…”

“Speechless,” he laughs and with a finger he flicks the side of my cheek. Then he looks around me to Declan and lets go of my shoulders. He extends a hand to the producer. “Hi there. Name’s Simon.”

It takes Declan a minute but after he manages to take his frown off me, he grasps Simon’s hand. “Hi. I’m Declan, the producer of the show.”

“Stop!” Oscar’s scream makes all three of us jump, and we look over to find him rushing from Armin’s side, signaling the nearby camera man. “Stop! We have to get that on camera. Now!” He looks from behind him and smiles largely. “Simon? Do you mind?”

“Not at all,” Simon laughs, it’s loud and booming. He then gives me a wink, “anything for Julie.”

Oscar gives him a thumbs up, “perfecto! This is gold. Simon, come, you must quickly sign release papers…”

Simon leaves my side and I watch as he formally shakes Oscar’s hand.

Oh God. What have I done?
